About Tadoba National Park

 Tadoba National Park is the oldest national park of the State of Maharahtra and since 1993, a Project Tiger Reserve.

It derives its name from the local God, "Taru". The legend goes that the village chief "Taru" was killed in an epic fight with the tiger. He is worshiped by all the local villagers as the deity of "Tadoba"

Tadoba has been referred to as the 'Jewel of Vidarbha'. It has an area of 625 sq.km.


This splendid museum of flora and fauna holds more than thousand species of birds, animals, insects and other life forms. Along with the main attraction the Tiger, large herds of Chitals, Sambars, Barking Deers, Chausingas, Neel Gais, Sloth Bears, Indian Bisons, Wild Dogs, Wild Boars and Leopards are other inhabitants of this beautiful wildlife sanctuary.

Tadoba, a heaven for wildlife enthusiasts is a rich, dry deciduous forest, a great place to walk and enjoy nature.

The Tadoba lake sustains the Marsh Crocodile, which were once common all over Maharashtra. Tadoba is also an ornithologist's paradise with a varied diversity of aquatic bird life, and Raptors.

The Tadoba Lake laced by bamboo groves within the premises of this park is home to the Marsh Crocodile which was once very common in Maharashtra. Their number is currently on the decline but they are seen here. Bird Lovers will also enjoy a visit to the Tadoba National Park. Ornithologists will get to see as many as 181 species of birds and that includes water birds as well.

A visit to the Tadoba National Park promises to be a very fascinating experience. Explore the dense mysterious forests and take delight in wild life viewing made all the more easier because of the presence of observation towers and a good network of roads. You are sure to thoroughly enjoy the trip particularly in the months between November and February when the weather is very pleasant.

 Tadoba-Andheri Tiger Reserve Project:
 
Tadoba-Andheri Tiger Reserve is a tiger reserve in Chandrapur District, Maharashtra, India. It includes Tadoba National Park and Andhari Wildlife Sanctuary. Maharashtra's oldest National Park created in 1955, the Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve. It is also one of India's 28 Project Tiger Reserve. The National Park is 623 km² in area, consisting of two forested rectangles of the Tadoba and Andhari range. Along with around 50 tigers, Tadoba Tiger Reserve is a home for rare Indian wildlife like, Leopards, Sloth Bears, Gaur, Wild Dogs, Hyenas, Civet and Jungle cats, and many species of Indian deer like Sambar, Cheetal, Nilgai, and Barking Deer. The Tadoba lake sustains the Marsh Crocodile, which were once common all over Maharashtra. Tadoba is also an ornithologist's paradise with a varied diversity of aquatic birdlife, and Raptors. Thickly clad hills form the north and western boundary of the Tiger Reserve. To the southwest is a huge lake, which acts as buffer in between the Park Forest and the extensive farmland extending right up to the Irai Lake. Tadoba Tiger Reserve is open throughout the year. The park remains closed every Tuesday.
